31/03/2017 (Bernama) - The Perak Farmers Organisation's (PPN) pioneer palm oil mill in Beruas, is now expected to be operational, the latest by end-2017.

It was earlier scheduled to begin operating between October and November this year.

Chairman Datuk Nadzri Ismail said the RM47 million mill on a 57-hectare site at Ladang Kampung Tengah here is 70 per cent complete with construction having started in 2015.

He added that it was a smart partnership between PPN and 30 Area farmers Organisations (PPK) towards efforts at meeting market and investment needs,

"Once operational, it will have a processing capacity of 30 metric tonnes per hour," he told reporters when met after officiating the 46th Annual General Meeting of the PPK Hutan Melintang here today.

He said if the mill is consistent in respect of production after three years of operation, PPN would propose that its operating capacity be increased to 60 metric tonnes per hour.

According to Nadzri, to ensure that the mill operates at optimum capacity, between 12,000 to 15,600 metric tonnes of oil palm was needed monthly.

He said the mill would add value to the involvement of the PPN in the oil palm industry, alongside being a new choice for farmers to process their yields.

"The profits generated from the processing of the palm oil would be returned to members in the form of dividends, rebates, educational opportunities and training.

"PPN will also have a value add in terms of producing organic fertiliser from empty oil palm bunches as well as downstream industries to be created,' he added.

There are about 110,000 registered PPN members in the state.
