20/01/2017 (Bernama) - PT Herfinta Farm & Plantation, Envitec Biogas AG and Calfield Sdn Bhd have signed a joint venture shareholder agreement to develop a four-megawatt biogas power plant in North Sumatra, Indonesia.

In a joint statement today, the companies said, the agreement, signed in Berlin, Germany, was in relation to the operations of PT Power Energi Nusantara Indonesia, a joint-venture company specially incorporated to develop and operate the biogas power plant.

Malaysian Ambassador to Germany, Datuk Zulkifli Adnan, said the cooperation would open up new opportunities among the Asean countries.

"This is one way of using German technology and a successful path for new technology transfers to Indonesia and Malaysia," he said.

PT Power Energi Nusantara Indonesia recently received the approval from Indonesia's Investment Coordination Board to commence its venture into the biogas sector with 199 billion rupiah (100 rupiah = RM0.0333) initial investment in North Sumatra.

Its Director, Debby Fientya Ludiyantie Pane, said the agreement was an opportunity for the palm oil sector to diversify its business.

"It will also make the palm oil industry 'greener' by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and producing renewable energy making it a net producer of energy instead of being a consumer," she said.
