06/05/2016 (Bernama) - Felcra Bhd is on the right track in its transformation to widen its business scope beyond oil palm and rubber to property and overseas businesses, says Chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.

"I am confident Felcra will continue to remain on the right track, offering hope for its 350,000 participants," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a palm oil mill at Sukau in Kinabatangan district involving Felcra, Koperasi Sukau Kinabatangan Bhd (Kosuk) and Winsome Harvest Palm Oil Mill Sdn Bhd here Thursday.

The Kinabatangan MP said under its business transformation, Felcra is collaborating with the Sabah Rubber Industry Board to develop 3,500 hectares of coconut, banana and pineapple plantations on Banggi island in Kudat district, creating up to 3,000 jobs.

Felcra has also taken over the operations of a facility in Johor that will produce 300,000 chickens a day and generate annual income of RM80 million, he said.

Bung Moktar said Felcra will also supply rubberwood to Swedish furniture giant Ikea and has forged a partnership with a tuna and sardine processing firm in the Philippines, where officers from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) will be brought to ascertain the halal status of the operations.
