Colombian Firm Tops Global List for Sustainable Palm; The Daabon Group Ranked Most Important Producer Worldwide
04/02/2016 (Business Wire) - The Daabon Group, located in Santa Marta, has been ranked first on a list of the 50 most important producers of sustainable palm in the world. It is the first time a Colombian company has topped the list.
Following this recognition, the Daabon Group confirms its commitment to make its production environmentally sustainable, socially responsible and economically viable.
The ranking was presented at the 13th annual meeting of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), in which over 800 delegates from 40 countries discussed the sustainability challenges facing oil palm cultivation.
The evaluation was made using the Sustainable Palm Oil Transparency Toolkit (SPOTT) designed by the Zoological Society of London, an active member of the RSPO. It consulted by the most recognised people of the productive chain of the palm industry worldwide, which also place companies where they correspond.
SPOTT evaluates more than 50 indicators of transparency and corporate commitments related to critical issues of sustainability in seven categories of the best environmental practices. It also consults reports and case studies with relevant information.
This ranking recognises Colombia as a world leader in sustainability, having surpassed, on the list, some of the largest producers of palm oil in the world.
