29/01/2016 (WorldStage) - The Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL) has cultivated one thousand and five hundred hectares of cocoa to boost internal generated revenue of the state.

Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji told journalists in Osogbo that 623 hectares of cocoa were already planted in Ibokun and another 523 hectares in Iwo.

Oyebamiji identified the large scale cultivation of Cocoa and Palm tree as a long term panacea to the dwindling economic fortune of Osun State.

According to him, the state has what it takes to revive its economy if cocoa and oil palm cultivation is embraced.

Oyebamiji, who charged the people in the South West geo-political zone to embrace cocoa and oil palm cultivation, said that apart from the comparative advantage it has over other crops, mix cropping with it would help sustain the farmers.

He also maintained that until  Nigerians are able to produce the substantial part of what we consume, our economy will continue to dwindle, therefore blaming the present economic down turn on over dependence on oil.

The OSICOL boss disclosed that the company was planning to establish a petroleum refinery at Dagbolu in Olorunda local government area of the state

He further disclosed that the investment company has estates spread all over the country, saying that 34 three bedroom apartments was been constructed in Lagos, 14 flats in Abuja and another 19 flats in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Commending Governor Rauf Aregbesola for massive road construction, he noted that the bane of location and localisation of industries in Osun by investors has been lack of good road network.

He said that with the massive road construction, investors will be encouraged to invest in Osun State.
