30/12/2015 (UkrAgroConsult) - Palm oil certainly became a discovery on the market of vegetable oils in XXI century. Back in the late 1990s its production barely reached 20 MMT, and already in 2014-2015 it exceeded 60 MMT. This changed the balance of power on the global vegoil market and seriously affected the supply and demand balance and market conditions.

Malaysia and Indonesia are actually monopolists in this market – their market share amounts to 85% from total global production. In due course, these countries relied on palm oil production to develop their economies.

However, Southeast Asia is not the only region with favorable conditions for oil palms cultivation. In fact, the potential of world’s palm oil production is at least 5-10 times higher than the current rates. And, taking into consideration the recently emerging trend of palm oil production growth outside the Southeast Asia, this prospect does not seem so remote.
