Hap Seng Always Practises Sustainable Devt
04/12/2015 (Bernama) - Sustainable development has always been at the centre of the way Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Bhd operates, said Chief Executive Group Plantations, Au Yong Siew Fah.
In a statement Wednesday, Au said, the company's strategy has been to safeguard resources, invest in its employees and enrich the lives of members of the local communities.
"In tandem with its commitment towards embracing sustainable practices throughout its value chain, the group recently unveiled its inaugural sustainability report," he said. The group's decision to publish a sustainability report on a biennial basis was to encourage internal continuous learning for sustainable growth, he said.
"This would enable the group to benchmark against best practices and constantly improve ourselves in terms of sustainable operations. "The report covers the group's core business activities including the management of its oil palm estates and the operation of its four palm oil mills in Sabah throughout 2014," he said.
Au said Hap Seng also planned to have all its four mills International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) European Union certified in 2016.
The ISCC is a system for certifying the biomass and bioenergy industries, oriented towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable use of land, protection of natural biospheres and social sustainability. Moving forward, he said, Hap Seng planned to introduce guidelines on biodiversity management utilising the High Conservation Values approach and develop a greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan in 2016.
