17/11/2015 (The Hindu) - The Oil Palm Developers and Processors Association (OPDPA), the nodal body for oil palm development in India, has urged the Central Government for a long term subsidy policy to support the farmers, and a separate palm oil import policy.

Welcoming the decision to allow 100 per cent FDI in oil palm plantations, the association, through a press release on Monday, sought viable pricing formula that takes into account certain valid costs of the industry that have been omitted in the current formula.

Seeking a separate import policy, the note said the current import duty levels are not supportive to farmers and the industry.

Relaxation of land ceiling norms for growing oil palm, and formation of a separate oil palm development board to aid the industry were two more suggestions made by the association, which informed that there are more than two lakh hectares under oil palm in the country.
