05/10/2015 (The Star) - The MPOB International Palm Oil Congress and Exhibition (PIPOC) is back from Oct 6 to 8.

Hailed as the largest gathering of the global oil palm fraternity, PIPOC serves as a platform for industry members to meet and deliberate on the various facets of the ever-growing oil palm industry.

“Members of the industry can optimise this opportunity to network and discuss the latest innovations, updates and challenges faced by the oil palm industry globally,” said Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) director-general Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May.

This year’s theme is “Oil Palm: Powering the World, Sustaining the Future”.

PIPOC 2015 will feature five concurrent conferences, each centred on different areas of the oil palm industry, with esteemed speakers in the oils and fats sector sharing their views on the many facets of the industry.

“PIPOC 2015 will also include the presentation of numerous papers by renowned speakers during the conferences,” said Choo.

A total of 25 technical papers will be presented at the Agriculture, Biotechnology & Sustainability Conference, 25 at the Chemistry, Processing Technology and Bio-Energy Conference; 17 at the Oleo and Specialty Chemicals Conference; 15 at the Global Economics and Marketing Conference and 22 at the Food, Health and Nutrition Conference.

Among prominent speakers lined up for plenary lectures are United Plantations Berhad chairman and chief executive director Datuk Carl Bek-Nielsen, who will be giving a lecture on Aggregated Gains from Integrating Sustainability Practices into the Oil Palm Business.

Another notable plenary speaker is LMC International co-founder and chairman Dr James Fry, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the global oils and fats market.

His session on The Impact of Biofuel Policy and Export Taxes on the Methodology of Forecasting CPO Prices will be beneficial for those interested in the business side of the agricultural commodities, especially palm oil prices.

Dr Choo will speak on Revolutionising the Palm Oil Industry through Genome Technology.

Other esteemed plenary speakers include Neil A. Burns, Prof Yang Yue Xin and Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa, focusing on topics such as Oleochemicals, Clinical Studies on Vegetable Oils related to Palm Oil and, Malaysian Palm Oil – Chal-lenges and Opportunities.

An evening forum will also be held to further deliberate on PIPOC 2015’s theme.

MPOB chairman Datuk Wan Mohamad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad will act as the moderator for this special session.

The forum will also serve as an avenue for leaders of the industry to dissect the many issues related to this industry.

Panellists will include Dr Choo, Malaysian Palm Oil Association chief executive officer Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Makhdzir Mardan, Prof Dr Sally McKenzie as well as Dr Fry.

With more than 300 exhibition booths featuring the latest technologies and innovations, products, equipment and services in the oils and fats sector, PIPOC 2015 is expected to gather up to 8,000 trade visitors comprising industry experts, policymakers, researchers, millers, traders, entrepreneurs, students and the general public.
