02/10/2015 (Bernama) - The Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE) & Showcase Malaysia 2015 in Yangon, aimed at branding Malaysian capabilities, managed to set over 1,124 business meetings between Myanmar and Malaysian companies.

The four-day event from Sept 30, which involved 50 Malaysian companies, was open to Myanmar's trade visitors on the first two days and for the public on the final two days.

In a statement, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said it would ensure continuous collaboration with the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI) to strengthen bilateral trade between the two economies.

Matrade Senior Director Wan Latiff Wan Musa said Malaysian companies should leverage on the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and develop partnerships.

"Among potential sectors to increase trade include oil and gas, petroleum products, palm oil, as well as, processed food and chemicals," he added.

The total trade between Malaysia and Myanmar last year stood at US$972.1 million (US$1=RM4.43), an increase of 6.6 per cent from US$911.6 million in 2013.

Within ASEAN, Myanmar is Malaysia's seventh largest trading partner and Malaysia's seventh largest export destination.
