Pakistan To Explore New Areas Of Cooperation With Malaysia
07/08/2015 (Bernama) - Pakistan is looking to explore new areas of cooperation with Malaysia, especially in the halal industry.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz said Malaysia had proven success in the sector and was continuously making good progress.
"Malaysia and Pakistan could share expertise and learn from each other to improve the standard and branding of halal products.
"I will invite my Malaysian counterparts to come to Pakistan and discuss new ways of possible cooperation," he told Bernama here Thursday.
Earlier, Sartaj who attended the 22nd ASEAN Regional Forum in conjunction with the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting here, was interviewed on Bernama Today, a BernamaTV programme.
Besides the halal industry, Sartaj said Pakistan is also keen to enhance cooperation in the agriculture, defence and education sectors.
Commenting on ASEAN, he said it was a good example of successful regional cooperation that can be emulated by others.
"Despite different cultures and political systems, all ASEAN members have found common ground and do not interfere in the domestic issues of any member country.
"Also, the manner in which ASEAN collaborates with the European Union is another example of its success," he added.
In 2013, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Pakistan stood at US$1.88 billion. But, the annual trade balance is heavily tilted in Malaysia's favour due to exports of palm oil to Pakistan.
Malaysia's other exports include electrical and electronics products, timber and wood, machinery and appliance parts, chemical products and processed food products.
Pakistan's major exports to Malaysia are textile and clothing, rice, vegetables and frozen seafood.
