Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/07/2015 (Reuters) - The Karachi Port handled 247,353 tonnes of cargo comprising 214,283 tonnes of import cargo and 33,070 tonnes of export cargo including 5,383 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 214,283 tonnes comprised of 87,063 tonnes of containerised cargo; 25,328 tonnes of general cargo; 85,264 tonnes of bulk cargo: 81,485 tonnes of coal; 3,779 tonnes of SB meal and 16,628 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 33,070 tonnes comprised of 33,070 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 5,383 containers comprising of 2,970 containers import and 2,413 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,249 of 20's and 798 of 40's loaded while 115 of 20's and 5 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 320 of 20's and 200 of 40's loaded containers while 613 of 20's and 540 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were twelve ships namely UAFL Zanzibar, SSL Trust, PAC Aries, Commodore, Posen, AS Ophelia, Seoyoung, Stolt Viking, Merkur-O, Lady Venus, Hony Future and Mu Dan Song carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were seven vessels viz. KMTC Dubai, SSL Trust, Posen, Lady Venus, Markos-1, Kang Hong and Xin Yi Hai-16 carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely OOCL California, APL Holland and Kong Hong carrying containers and general cargo respectively due to arrive on sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely KMTC Dubai, Markos-1 and Sam Jaguar carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

There were two vessels viz. MT Karachi and Gloria Galaxy carrying oil tanker and DAP respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while eleven vessels viz. Xin Nan Tong, Kota Kaya, Bahamas, MT Lahore, MT Quetta, Silver Star, Asavari, Al Mahboobah, Kouju Lily, Falcon Grace and KSL Danyang carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, urea, mogas and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 57,240 tonnes comprising 51,486 tonnes of import cargo and 5,754 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,504 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 51,486 tonnes includes 6,000 tonnes of furnace oil; 7,600 tonnes of palm oil; 4,000 tonnes of urea; 8,056 tonnes of chemical and 25,830 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 5,754 tonnes includes 5,754 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There were two ships namely CV Al Manamah and MT Ivy Galaxy with containers and oil tanker sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two ships namely CV Maersk Kolkata and MV GBU Sapphire carrying containers and chemical are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz. CV Maersk Kolkata, CV Al Manamah, MT Pan Rapido, MV GBU Sapphire, MV Sentinel Spirit, MT Ex Quisite and MT Ivy Galaxy currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, urea, chemical, furnace oil, LNG and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as two ships carrying containers and furnace oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Wednesday. There were three vessels carrying containers and chemical took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are three ships namely CV Maersk Denver, MV Bochem Mumbai and MT Ct Dublin carrying containers, chemical and edible oil respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.
