29/04/2015 (Bernama) - The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (MRRD) is in the midst of identifying suitable areas, including in Sabah and Sarawak, to develop more Felcra projects in rural areas for the younger generation.

Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said these projects are to encourage the youth to jointly develop the rural areas, besides directly involving them in businesses carried out in rural areas.

He said this after handing over subsistence allowance and dividends to Felcra Berhad replanting project participants in the Anak Endau region at the Rompin District council hall, here, Tuesday.

A total of 799 Felcra participants from the region received subsistence allowances totalling RM1.056 million, including the Sepayang replanting project, Anak Endau Tebing Kiri and Pontian Tebing Tinggi located in the Rompin parliamentary constituency.

Shafie said the subsistence allowance and dividends are given according to the land area developed by the participants and to cover their cost of living while waiting for the project to produce yields. The subsistence allowance for oil palm cultivation is for four years and rubber for six years.

The replanting programme in Rompin conducted by Felcra Berhad covers an area of 115 hectares involving 85 participants last year, and covers an area of 19.1 hectares involving 21 participants this year

Talking about the focus of the ministry in the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11), which will be tabled in Parliament next month, Mohd Shafie said that more job opportunities will be created for the second generation Felcra settlers in the rural areas.
