BURSA MALAYSIA: KL Shares End Higher Led By Plantation Stocks

03/04/2015 (Bernama) -- Shares on Bursa Malaysia closed higher today driven by buying interest in plantation stocks.

The key benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended at 1,831.97 points at the close, 5.66 points higher, after hovering between 1,826.28 and 1,832.37 throughout the day.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers 466 to 325 while 322 counters were unchanged, 675 untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Total volume was lower at 2.16 billion units worth RM2.03 billion from Wednesday's 2.91 billion units worth RM1.57 billion.

United Plantations jumped 36 sen to RM26.36 while Negri Sembilan Oil Palms added 22 sen to RM5.10.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank added 6.0 sen to RM9.40, Public Bank gained 12 sen to RM18.92, Tenaga shed 6.0 sen to RM14.30 and Axiata was flat at RM7.06.

Ingenuity, which topped the most active counters, was unchanged at 8.5 sen, followed by Nova MSC which added 1.5 sen to 19 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index appreciated 47.35 points to 12,565.02, the FBMT100 Index increased 44.12 points to 12,261.51 and the FBM Ace surged 168.29 points to 7,234.39.

The FBM Emas Syariah Index went up 19.02 points to 13,113.019 and the FBM 70 increased 72.76 points to 13,46.53.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index rose 10.17 points to 3,358.27, the Plantation Index gained 3.39 points to 7,800.5 and the Finance Index appreciated 63.22 points to 16,273.26.

Main Market volume increased to 1.04 billion shares worth RM1.79 billion from yesterday's 853.8 million shares worth RM1.32 billion.

Turnover on the ACE Market fell to 1.06 billion shares worth RM234.31 million from 1.97 billion shares worth RM221.55 million recorded on Wednesday.

Warrants contracted to 46.92 million units worth RM8.12 million from 78.04 million units worth RM21.35 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 65.5 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (205.41 million), construction (48.22 million), trade and services (436.15 million), technology (85.53 million), infrastructure (11.8 million), SPAC (22.4 million), finance (38.48 million), hotels (4.4 million), properties (105.72 million), plantations (13.39 million), mining (20,600), REITs (12.43 million) and closed/fund (38,000).
