26/03/2015 (Bernama) - Felcra Berhad (Felcra) will distribute RM305.3 million in dividend payout for the year 2014 to approximately 67,000 participants of its plantations nationwide.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said as at December 2014, the total income derived from Felcra's padi, oil palm and rubber plantations was RM1,104,743,884.00.

"Total expenditure on operational costs, marketing services and management charges is RM749,167,547.00.

"Gross profit generated as of December 2014 is RM355,576,337.00 and after mandatory deductions, including repayment of debts to the federal and state governments and to the replanting funds, leaving the net profit that can be distributed is RM305.3 million."

He said this to reporters after attending the "Cakna" programme with Felcra participants in Felcra Seri Bandi here today.

Also present were Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, who is also Kemaman Member of Parliament, Rural and Regional Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ibrahim Muhammad and Felcra chief executive officer Datuk Ramlee Abu Bakar.

Mohd Shafie said Felcra participants would receive the dividend based on the size of their land, beginning this week.

Asked about the decrease in dividend compared to RM380 million last year, Mohd Shafie said it was due to the decline in revenue following the replanting projects involving 7,194 hectares of oil palm estates and 1,904 hectares of rubber plantations, as well as unstable commodity prices.

"That's why I suggest that alternative commodities be grown like in Sarawak where they are planting black pepper and in Johor where alternative crops, such as chili and rock melon, are being cultivated.

"These alternative commodities are capable of balancing the income from the plantations following market price instabilities suffered by the main commodities," he added.
