Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

27/03/2015 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 82,415 tonnes of cargo comprising 61,230 tonnes of import cargo and 21,185 tonnes of export cargo including 4,795 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 61,230 tonnes comprised of 28,810 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,000 tonnes of coal and 25,420 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,185 tonnes comprised of 18,347 tonnes of containerised cargo; 88 tonnes of general cargo and 2,750 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 4,795 containers comprising of 2,628 containers import and 1,167 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 858 of 20's and 871 of 40's loaded while 28 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 538 of 20's and 301 of 40's loaded containers while 443 of 20's and 292 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were six ships namely PAC Aries, Sima Perfect, Hyundai Jakarta, Al Jalaa, African Raptor and Rickmers Tianjin carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. Irenes Wisdom, APL Seattle, RHL Aqua, Bochem Chennai, Bum Shin and Sam Tiger carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively currently at the berths.

There were three ships namely Irenes Wisdom, Bum Shin and Chao Hu carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely YM Enlightement carrying containers respectively is expected to sail on Friday.

There was one vessel viz. Luo Zhou carrying project cargo due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. Sudair, Shalamar, Gulf Mist and Palmerton carrying containers, oil tanker, mogas and railway engine respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 127,007 tonnes comprising 110,091 tonnes of import cargo and 16,916 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,561 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 110,091 tonnes includes 23,232 tonnes of furnace oil; 12,629 tonnes of palm oil; 13,579 tonnes of canola seeds; 10,124 tonnes of chemical; 18,778 tonnes of coal and 31,749 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 16,916 tonnes includes 16,916 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,561 containers comprising of 1,671 containers import and 890 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely CV OOCL Kobe, MV Atlantic Glory and MV ECE Nurek with containers and chemical sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely CV Maersk Pittsburgh and CV CMA CGM Tosca carrying containers are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Maersk Pittsburgh, CV CMA CGM Tosca, MV Motion Scan, MV Alpha Melody, Trans Pacific, Atlantic Glory, MT Amarylis, MV ECE Nurek and MT Bunga Akasia currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, canola seeds, general cargo, coal, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely MT Lahore, Vermillion Energy and GSW Future carrying furnace oil and palm oil respectively at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday.

There was one vessel viz. CV Silvana carrying containers expected to take berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Thursday. There is one ship namely MT Equisite carrying LPG due to arrive on Thursday.
