13/03/2015 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 165,795 tonnes of cargo comprising 135,618 tonnes of import cargo and 30,177 tonnes of export cargo including 5,072 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 135,618 tonnes comprised of 51,158 tonnes of containerised cargo; 380 tonnes of general cargo; 2,464 tonnes of soyabean meal and 81,616 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 30,177 tonnes comprised of 17,174 tonnes of containerised cargo; 503 tonnes of general cargo; and 12,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,072 containers comprising of 3,784 containers import and 1,288 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 1,318 of 20's and 905 of 40's loaded while 28 of 20's and 314 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 395 of 20's and 308 of 40's loaded containers while 151 of 20's and 63 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were two ships namely Commodore and Chao Hu carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were four vessels viz. Ever Radient, PAC Aries, Uni Premier and MMI carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Ever Radient, OOCL Shanghai and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Uni Premier, Nava Atropos and CSC Brave carrying containers and oil tankers respectively are expected to sail on Friday.

There were two vessels viz. Cosco Osaka and APL Chicago carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while six vessels viz. Sudair, Sapphire-T, Bon Atlantico, Argent Eyebright, BW Zambesi and Asavari carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas and chemical respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 98,327 tonnes comprising 81,643 tonnes of import cargo and 16,684 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,153 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 81,643 tonnes includes 8,000 tonnes of edible oil; 28,399 tonnes of furnace oil; 4,580 tonnes of chemical; 9,500 tonnes of canola seeds and 31,164 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 16,684 tonnes includes 2,635 tonnes of cement and 14,049 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There were three ships namely CV CMA CGM Carmen, MV Batter Sea Park and MT Horizon with containers, chemical and edible oil sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely CV Sealand Micigan carrying containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of seven vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Carmen, CV Sealand Micigan, MV Tan Binh-22, MT Inception, MV Batter Sea Park, MT Lahore and MT Horizon currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, canola seeds, chemical, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely Hanjin Shenzen, CMA CGM Florida, Atlantic Glory, Oriental Queen and Al-Soor-II carrying containers, steel coil, chemical and diesel oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday. There were four vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Carman, CV Michigan, MT Inception and MT Lahore carrying containers, canola seeds and furnace oil respectively took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are four ships namely CV Hanjin Shenzen, CV CMA CGM Florida, MV Atlantic Glory and MV Oriental Queen carrying containers, chemical and steel coil respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
