23/01/2015 (Thailand National News Bureau) - The Internal Trade Department has ensured that a four-baht increase in vegetable oil price will not make the price exceed its ceiling of 42 baht per bottle. It also confirmed there would not be a lack of vegetable oil in the country.

Deputy Director-General of the Internal Trade Department Sntichai Sarathawanphaet said he had been informed that there were sufficient palm oil for consumers despite a price increase. Palm oil was now sold at 40 - 42 baht a bottle, slightly higher than its previous price of 38 baht a bottle. The current price was still within the legal limit, said the deputy director-general.

The department called on the general public not to be worried too much about the palm oil price situation. They were also told not to hoard the commodity since it would create panic and affect the market. The department said it would randomly inspect palm oil price in a major fresh market and convenient stores in order to make sure that the oil was not sold higher than the control price.

Prices of most raw food have remained unchanged, according to the department’s survey in the last fortnight. Pork was sold at 135 – 140 baht/kilo, whole chicken 60 – 65 baht/kilo and No.3 eggs 2.80 – 3.20 baht/kilo.
