15/01/2015 (Reuters) - The Karachi Port handled 133,345 tonnes of cargo comprising 91,985 tonnes of import cargo and 41,360 tonnes of export cargo including 4,282 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 91,985 tonnes comprised of 26,631 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,625 tonnes of general cargo; 15,634 tonnes of bulk cargo: 12,900 tonnes of coal; 2,734 tonnes of soda ash and 27,095 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 41,360 tonnes comprised of 19,510 tonnes of containerised cargo; 230 tonnes of general cargo; 12,405 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,375 tonnes of cement, 11,030 tonnes of steel and 9,215 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,282 containers comprising of 2,294 containers import and 1,988 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 479 of 20's and 830 of 40's loaded while 63 of 20's and 46 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 517 of 20's and 349 of 40's loaded containers while 157 of 20's and 308 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely ACX Crystal, GMT Phoenix, Kiran Istanbul and Mikawa carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. OOCL Chicago, Kota Kamil, PAC Aries, Orient Star, Adfines Sun, Mikawa and Yasa Aysen carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were five ships namely Kota Kamil, PAC Aries, Silver Hannah, Adfines Sun and Western Eyde carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and soda ash respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Orient Star and Le Li carrying oil tanker and general cargo are expected to sail on Thursday.

There were two vessels viz. Ever Result and Mathawee Naree carrying containers and DAP respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while five vessels viz. APL Guangzhou, Northern Guild, MT Lahore, Ariane Makara and BW Shinano carrying containers, oil tankers and mogas respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 61,215 tonnes comprising 45,787 tonnes of import cargo and 15,428 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,433 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 45,787 tonnes includes 7,188 tonnes of palm oil; 7,800 tonnes of fertilizer and 30,799 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 15,428 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,433 containers comprising of 1,621 containers import and 812 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely CV CMA CGM Racine with containers sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely CV Northern Jaugar and MT Genuine Venus carrying containers and palm oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of five vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Racine, CV Northern Jaugar, MV Hyderabad, MV Sino-6 and MT Genuine Venus currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, fertilizer and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely CMA CGM Lamartine, Ince Karadeniz, Eupen and FSL London carrying containers, rape seeds, LPG and palm oil respectively are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Wednesday. There were four vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Lamartine, CV Maersk Hardford MT Eupen and MT FSL London with containers, LPG and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are two ships namely CV CMA CGM Florida and CV Hansa America carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
