14/01/2015 (Bernama) - Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV) suffered a loss of about RM22 million after more than 1,400 hectares of its oil palm plantations were inundated by floods during the recent disaster.

Its chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abd Samad said the loss was due to the fact that much of the palm oil fruits could not be taken out in time, causing them to be submerged in the flood waters and affecting the quality.

"The worst affected were the FGV plantations at Felda Aring and at Gugusan Ciku in Gua Musang.

"The loss caused by factory damage is not much, while the only problem with the infrastructure is erosion of the plantation roads," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after presenting aid to flood victims in Kampung Paya Ladang Seberang Chenor, here, today.

Also present was Chenor assemblyman Mohamed Arifin Awang Ismail.

Mohd Isa said some of the plantations had just been replanted with young oil palm trees.

"Just like in Triang, Bera, the areas which had just been replanted were inundated by flood waters and I was told that if this continued for more than a week, the trees would have died, so we will look at whether we want to plant or not," he said.

Other than the FGV plantations, he said, more than 2,290 hectares of land belonging to Felda settlers in 12 settlements were also affected.

"Many trees died...we will help them replant with the aid of Teknoplant Sdn Bhd. Property belonging to the settlers worth RM1.5 million was also damaged and we have donated RM1.8 million to the victims," he said.

He also said that Malaysians should feel thankful that the existing government could manage the floods without depending on foreign aid.

"The spirit of helping each other and among the non-governmental organisations is obvious but in some countries, they have to ask for help from other nations," he said.
