European Vegoils-Palm Oil Prices Fall Back After Strong Rally
12/01/2015 (Reuters) - Palm oil prices on the European vegetable oils market edged back on Friday after a strong recent run-up but remained underpinned by concerns that heavy rains in Malaysia had curbed production in the world's number two producer.
"Palm oil tended slightly lower on profit-taking," one European broker said.
Crude palm oil (CPO) for February shipment was offered at $705.00 a tonne, down $10 from the prior day but still $30 above levels quoted three weeks ago.
"Recent floods on the East Coast of peninsular Malaysia may result in CPO production declining up to 15 percent for the month of December," an attache report issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.
"The three States most affected by the flooding account for about 17 percent of total national production," it added.
Prices for laurics also fell back after a recent strong advance, prompting active trading in both palmkernel oil and coconut oil. EUROPEAN VEG OILS TRADES CIF Rotterdam unless otherwise stated
