Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

20/12/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 147,528 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,918 tonnes of import cargo and 26,610 tonnes of export cargo including 7,019 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 120,918 tonnes comprised of 61,893 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,748 tonnes of general cargo; 28,079 tonnes of bulk cargo and 26,198 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 26,610 tonnes comprised of 17,880 tonnes of containerised cargo; 411 tonnes of general cargo; 2,594 tonnes of bulk cargo and 5,725 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,019 containers comprising of 5,024 containers import and 1,995 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 1,251 of 20's and 1,620 of 40's loaded while 351 of 20's and 91 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 429 of 20's and 268 of 40's loaded containers while 298 of 20's and 366 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were six ships namely AS Carelia, X-Press Euphrates, DL Cosmos, Al-Soor-II, Bunga Levender and Somerset carrying containers, oil tankers and cement respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were eight vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, Deira, Hyundai Jakarta, APL Chicago, Captain Costas, Uni Premier, Bunga Levender and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Uni Premier, Chemroad Mega and Heilan Journey carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely Deira, Hyundai Jakarta and Captain Costas carrying containers are expected to sail on Saturday.

There was one vessels viz. Cosmos Osaka carrying containers due to arrive on Friday, while two vessels viz. Hanjin White and Sansibar carrying containers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 69,149 tonnes comprising 38,580 tonnes of import cargo and 30,569 export cargo inclusive 2,108 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. As many as 2,108 containers comprising 1,333 containers import and 775 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There were two ships namely MV Sea Ambition and MT Jipro Neftis with chemical and edible oil sailed out sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely CV Lily Schulte and MV Yasa Unsal Sunar carrying containers and bulk cargo are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of six vessels viz. CV APL Oman, CV Lily Schulte, MT Alpine Loyalty, MV Yasa Unsal Sunar, MT Jipro Neftis and MV Sea Ambition currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, rapeseed, crude oil, palm oil and chemical respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely Palena, Ocean Success, Josco Suzhou and ST Dare with containers, project cargo, sunflower seeds and palm oil are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were five vessels viz. CV Palena, MV Ocean Success, MT Josco Suzhou, ST Dare and MT LPG Nisyros with containers, project cargo, sunflower seeds, palm oil and LPG expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, FAP Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday. There are no ships due to arrive on Friday.
