01/12/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 128,068 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,785 tonnes of import cargo and 34,283 tonnes of export cargo including 6,760 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 93,785 tonnes comprised of 56,367 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,834 tonnes of general cargo; 33,584 tonnes of bulk cargo: 26,850 tonnes of coal and 6,734 tonnes of soyabean meal.

The total export cargo of 34,283 tonnes comprised of 26,513 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,770 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,400 tonnes of cement; 5,370 tonnes of rice and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,760 containers comprising 4,425 containers import and 2,335 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 1,001 of 20's and 1,653 of 40's loaded while 20 of 20's and 49 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 646 of 20's and 477 of 40's loaded containers while 109 of 20's and 313 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were six ships namely AS Carelia, Philadelphia, X-Press Euphrates, BW Kronborg, Filia Glory and Le He carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, COSCO Kobe, Lissy Schulte, Ocean Flower, Dragon Glory and Han Li carrying containers, steel, DAP and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Lissy Schulte and Halil Sahin carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely COSCO Kobe and Sea Merchant carrying containers and cement respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There was one vessel viz. Bon Atlantico carrying chemical due to arrive on Friday, while another vessel viz. COSCO Kawasaki carrying containers is due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 120,223 tonnes comprising 63,787 tonnes of import cargo and 56,436 export cargo inclusive 3,542 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 63,787 tonnes includes 10,400 tonnes of coal; 13,665 tonnes of rapeseeds; 2,957 tonnes of LPG and 36,765 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 56,436 tonnes includes 25,903 tonnes of crude oil and 30,533 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,542 containers comprising 1,935 containers import and 1,607 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. There was one ship namely CV OOCL Kobe with containers sailed out sea on Friday morning, while three more ships namely CV Hugo Schulte, MT Torm Clara and MT LPG Nisyros carrying containers, edible oil and LPG are expected to sail on the same day edible oil afternoon.

A total number of eight vessels viz. CV OOCL Kobe, CV Hugo Schulte, CV MSC Chicago, MT Torm Clara, MV Ocean Lion, MT LPG Nisyros, MT Silver Emily and MT Moon Globe currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, crude oil, rape seeds, palm oil and LPG respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as five ships namely Rio Dela Plata, Verginia, Prosperity, AS Olivia and Al-Soor-II with containers, wheat, edible oil, chemical and diesel oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were five vessels viz. CV Rio Dela Plata, CV Petro Hue, MV Le He V-103, MT AS Olivia and MT Al-Soor-II with containers, project cargo, chemical and diesel oil expected to took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Friday. There are two ships namely CV MSC Yokohama and MV Jasmine with containers and project cargo due to arrive on Saturday, while two more ships namely CV MSC Los Angles and CV Pona carrying containers are due to arrive on Sunday.
