01/11/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 128,270 tonnes of cargo comprising 110,621 tonnes of import cargo and 17,649 tonnes of export cargo including 5,359 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 110,621 tonnes comprised of 48,328 tonnes of containerised cargo; 18,635 tonnes of bulk cargo: 15,181 tonnes of coal; 2,724 tonnes of wheat; 730 tonnes of DAP and 43,658 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo comprised of 17,649 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 5,359 containers comprising 3,522 containers import and 1,837 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,060 of 20's and 1,231 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 410 of 20's and 296 of 40's loaded containers while 331 of 20's and 252 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were two ships namely Urania and Papayiannis carrying oil tanker and soyabean meal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. Northern Prelude, Sakaka, Nagoya Tower, Ocean Joy and Al-Mahboobah carrying containers, fertilizer and chemical respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Sakaka, Songa Sapphire and Al-Mahboobah carrying containers, oil tanker and chemical sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Nagoya Tower and Al-Soor-II carrying containers and oil tanker are expected to sail on Saturday. There are four vessels viz. AS Carelia, Hanjin Scarlet, Lissy Schulte and Tai Hu carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 102,566 tonnes comprising 79,595 tonnes of import cargo and 22,971 export cargo inclusive 3,620 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 79,595 tonnes includes 17,563 tonnes of furnace oil; 12,809 tonnes of palm oil; 3,414 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 45,809 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo includes 22,971 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,620 containers comprising 2,411 containers import and 1,209 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. There was one ship namely CV CMA CGM King Fish with containers sailed out sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely CV Marth Schulte and MT Ginga Hawk carrying containers and palm oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of six vessels viz. CV CMA CGM King Fish, CV Marth Schulte, CV Alliance Rickmers, MV Glory Trader, MT Lahore and MT Ginga Hawk currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, sunflower seeds, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as four ships namely Rio Blanco, Sea Luck-II, Flag Mersindi and Global Tanya with containers, sunflower seed, wheat and LPG are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
There was one vessel viz. CV Rio Blanco carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Friday. There is one ship namely MT Al-Salam-II with diesel oil due to arrive on Friday. There are two vessels viz. CV Maersk Kingston and CV CMA CGM Maupassad carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday, while two vessels viz. CV Hansa America and CV OOCL Kobe carrying containers are due to arrive on Sunday. There are six ships namely vessels viz. CV MSC Panama, CV Maersk Pittsburg, CV CMA CGM Rablais, CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Pona and MV BBC Ontario with containers and project cargo are due to arrive as per arriving schedule.
