25/10/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 109,614 tonnes of cargo comprising 68,975 tonnes of import cargo and 40,614 tonnes of export cargo including 4,458 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 68,975 tonnes comprised of 31,999 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,210 tonnes of general cargo; 18,700 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,715 tonnes of wheat; 4,905 tonnes of DAP; 3,230 tonnes of soyabean meal; 6,850 tonnes of rock phosphate and 17,066 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 40,614 tonnes comprised of 26,131 tonnes of containerised cargo; 593 tonnes of general cargo; 1,115 tonnes of cement and 12,775 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,458 containers comprising 2,202 containers import and 2,256 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 704 of 20's and 740 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 9 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 636 of 20's and 497 of 40's loaded containers while 242 of 20's and 192 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were five ships namely Kota Kamil, Aysan, PAC Aries, Orient Pine and Bailu Zuo carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were three vessels viz. Hyundai Colombo, Reliance-II and King Brave carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Henricus-J and Histria Agata carrying general cargo and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday.

There were four vessels viz. APL Guangzhou, Cosco Kawasaki, Northern Guild and Somerset carrying containers and cement respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while three vessels viz. Maharshi Parashuram, Atalandi and Rochest Castle carrying oil tanker, wheat and talcum powder respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 141,371 tonnes comprising 87,285 tonnes of import cargo and 54,086 export cargo inclusive 3,274 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 87,285 tonnes includes 51,490 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,918 tonnes of edible oil; 4,205 tonnes of wheat; 4,884 tonnes of chemical and 23,788 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 54,086 tonnes includes 15,668 tonnes of cement and 38,418 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,274 containers comprising 1,252 containers import and 2,022 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There were three ships namely CV CMA CGM Musset, MT Nur-K and MT Ashavari sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely CV Maersk Memphis with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Musset, CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Maersk Memphis, CV Maersk Kalamata, MV Kai Hong, MV Melos, MV Zulal, MV Incle Karadeniz, MT Nur-K, MT Quetta and MT Ashavari currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, wheat, cement, furnace oil, palm oil and chemical respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as four ships namely Glory Trader, Sea Luck-II, Flag Mersinidi and Ashahda with wheat, sun flower seed and furnace oil are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were five vessels viz. CV Alliance Rickmond, CV ER Denmark, CV Hugo Schulte, CV APL Oman and MT Ginga Panther carrying containers and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.
