16/10/2014 (Bernama) - Import of vegetable oils in India last month jumped by 21 per cent to 1,047,620 tonnes compared with 863,917 tonnes in September 2013, The Solvent Extractors' Association of India said Wednesday.
The import consisted of 1,018,767 tonnes of edible oils and 28,853 tonnes on non-edible oils.
"Import of crude palm oil (CPO) is continuously on the uptrend, amid the nil export duty on palm products announced by Malaysia for two months effective Sept 1, 2014 and nil duty by Indonesia effective Oct 1, 2014," the association said in a statement here.
It said overall palm products for the November 2013 to September 2024 period touched 7.1 million tonnes where soft oils share increased to 32 per cent compared with 20 per cent last year.
Current stock of edible oils as on Oct 1, 2014 at various ports is estimated at 715,000 tonnes.
CPO made up 350,000 tonnes, RBD palm olein 85,000 tonnes, degummed soyabean oil 150,000 tonnes, crude sunflower oil 120,000 tonnes and rapeseed (canola) oil 10,000 tonnes and about 1,000,000 tonnes in pipelines.
