Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

02/10/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 169,565 tonnes of cargo comprising 138,577 tonnes of import cargo and 30,988 tonnes of export cargo including 4,465 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 138,577 tonnes comprised of 26,467 tonnes of containerised cargo; 25,214 tonnes of general cargo; 47,141 tonnes of bulk cargo: 23,344 tonnes of coal; 8,579 tonnes of wheat; 9,641 tonnes of DAP; 4,357 tonnes of Soyabean meal; 1,220 tonnes of rock phosphate and 39,755 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. The total export cargo of 30,988 tonnes comprised of 28,678 tonnes of containerised cargo and 2,310 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 4,465 containers comprising 1,523 containers import and 2,942 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 849 of 20's and 331 of 40's loaded while 12 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 806 of 20's and 482 of 40's loaded containers while 420 of 20's and 376 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were six ships namely Hanjin White, MOL Direction, PAC Aries, FPMC P Glory, BSLE Vivy and Peace Pearl carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. Hyundai Bangkok, CS Tina, El Gurdabia and Bao Bright carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were two ships namely CS Tina and Oriental Lotus carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while two ships namely Hyundai Bangkok and El Gurdabia carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There was one vessel viz. Julia Oldendroff carrying coal respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while four vessels viz. Elbwolf, Kota Kaya, YM Elixir and Noble Coral carrying containers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 76,801 tonnes comprising 59,822 tonnes of import cargo and 15,979 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,050 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 59,822 tonnes includes 21,092 tonnes of furnace oil; 8,430 tonnes of palm oil; 1,800 tonnes of vegetable oil and 28,500 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 15,979 tonnes includes 5,529 tonnes of cement and 10,450 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,050 containers comprising 1,500 containers import and 550 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There was one ship namely MT Al Mahfoza with oil tanker sailed out sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely CV MSC Vidhi with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz. CV MSC vidhi, CV Safmarine Ngami, Kang Huan, MV NPS Mosa, Maple, MV Autaurus and MT Al Mahfoza currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, rapeseed, vegetable oil, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely Hanjin Sandigo, Sandra and Steam Leader with containers, wheat and palm oil are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were two vessels viz. CV Hanjin Sandigo and CV Maersk Kolkata carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Tuesday. There are two ships namely CV Maersk Kingston and CV CMA CGM Mauopassat with containers due to arrive on Wednesday.
