Pakistan's Edible Oil Imports Likely To Rise

KARACHI, July 22 Asia Pulse - Pakistan's edible oil imports were expectedto rise in the coming weeks as importers built stocks ahead of the Muslimfasting month of Ramadan, dealers said on Wednesday.

"The local prices are stable because of the sufficient stock position,"said Zia-ul Haq, a dealer at Saulat Enterprises - a leading palm oilimporter. "There are more than 40,000 tonnes of edible oil on the highseas," he added.

Dealers said local stocks stood at around 100,000 tonnes.

Akbar Puri of Agro Commodities, another oil importer, said the importdemand would rise in the weeks ahead despite rising international pricesbecause dealers were building up stocks for Ramadan, which is due inOctober.
