Ministry Of Plantation Industries And Commodities - Palm Oil, Rubber And Timber Promotion Mission To The People's Republic Of China 12 - 17 September 2014

10/09/2014 (Bernama) - The Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will be leading a Palm Oil, Rubber and Timber Promotion Mission to People’s Republic of China from 12 to 17 September 2014. The delegation comprise of representatives from the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), Malaysian Rubber Board(MRB), Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB) and private sector.
 
2. The objectives of this mission are to:
 
· strengthen bilateral trade in palm oil, rubber and timber products; and
 
· discuss with private sector representatives on possible areas to further strengthen business linkages between China and Malaysia.
 
3. During the visit to China, YB Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities will officiate Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar (POTS) China 2014 jointly organized by the MPOB and MPOC. This event is aimed at disseminating information on the positive attributes of palm oil and promoting palm oil exports to China. In addition, POTS China provides the window to promote private sector networking and business linkages.
 
4. YB Minister will also visit Furniture China 2014 and convene discussion with the private sector representatives. This annual exhibition is participated by more than 850 exhibitor’s globally showcasing the latest developments in the furniture industry.
 
5. The itinerary of the mission includes:
 
(i) officiate Palm Oil and Rubber Hub at SINO-ASEAN Suining International High-Tech Industrial Park. This is an initiative from the Malaysian private sector to strengthen downstream activities in China;
 
(ii) discussion with Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. This Bureau is responsible for the quality and safety of food products including palm oil imported into China ; and
 
(iii) discussion with SINOCHEM, a major importer of natural rubber and manufacturer of rubber products.
 
6. China is a major export destination for palm oil products from Malaysia, accounting for 20.4% of total global exports. In 2013, exports of palm oil and palm oil products were valued at RM11.3 billion. Major palm oil and palm-based products exported to China in 2013 include palm oil, oleochemical and palm kernel oil.
 
7. Malaysia’s total exports of rubber and rubber products to China in 2013 was recorded at RM8.36 billion. Major categories of rubber and rubber products exported include natural rubber (SMR 10 and SMR 20), medical gloves, vulcanized rubber and threads, and other medical devices.
 
8. In addition, other commodity products exported to China include  timber and timber products valued at RM736.2 million in 2013. The major timber products exported to China in 2013 were sawntimber, logs and plywood.
