Some palm oil in Britain found to contain carcinog
7/29/2004(EVENING MAIL - Birmingham Post and Mail Ltd.) - SHOPPERS arebeing warned over the dangers of buying a cooking oil which may becontaminated with an illegal dye that could cause cancer. Walsallenvironmental health officers fear some bottles of Golden Sun palm oil,which were found to contain the dye Sudan IV, have made their way intoshops in the borough.
The oil is manufactured in Ghana and is distributed in England byMacphilips Foods Ltd and Wanis Ltd, both of London.
It is mostly sold directly to the public by Wanis, but it has also beendistributed through cash and carry in the Midlands.
The affected batch has a best before end date of December 2005. The oil,which is red in colour, comes in a clear plastic one litre bottle, with ablue screw top lid.
