Land Identified for Oil Palm Estates in Limbang District
14/08/2014 (Borneo Post) Felda has identified some 10,900 hectares of land belonging to landowners in Kuala Medalam, Limbang District to be turned into oil palm plantations.
Felda Limbang general manager Saifullah Mat Nor said survey works had been carried out and the nursery prepared.
“We acquired 10,900 hectares of land in 2009 and are optimistic the project could be implemented once the survey work has been completed.
“We have carried out dialogue sessions and consultations with the landowners to ensure the project could be carried out successfully to benefit all parties concerned,” he said during the Felda Limbang Aidilfitri gathering at Dewan Suarah here recently.
Among those present were Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Limbang Resident Maria Hasman, special officer Mohamad Abu Bakar and Limbang Felda unit head Romeo Osmond.
Saifullah revealed that Felda had also received a request from Limbang Malay Association (PML) to develop similar estates for riverine areas like Kampung Meritam, Telahak and Ulak.
Maria is confident the project and oil palm factory set up by Felda will bring great impact, especially to rural areas.
“We encourage more investors apart from Felda and Utahol Company to develop the oil palm industry here to boost the local economy.
“We in the Resident’s office will assist and help create greater awareness among landowners on the importance of developing their idle lands for productive ventures,” he said.
