Full Fat Dairy Products Sent Back to Factories
13/08/2014 (Tehran Times) - The head of the Iranian dairy industry union reported the return of over 50 percent of whole milk products to factories.
Mohamad reza Esmaeili, in an interview with IRNA on Tuesday, said the remarks made by the health minister a few days back that some factories add palm oil to their full fat dairy products has evoked anxiety in the general public.
Esmaeili said per capita milk consumption in Iran is about half the world average and the recent news has made Iranians to even use less dairy products.
Last week Health Minister Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi confirmed a report that there is palm oil in high fat milk and asked citizens to avoid full fat dairy products.
Hydrogenated vegetable oils like palm oil have proven to contain saturated fatty acid, a trans fats that could lead to increase of cholesterol build up in arteries and eventually cause to heart attack.
