09/08/2014 (Channel News Asia) - Commodities firm Wilmar International said on Thursday (Aug 7) that it has continued to focus on engaging stakeholders with regard to its "No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation Policy". This policy was announced in December 2013.

In its latest quarterly update on the progress of implementation, Wilmar said its efforts included meetings with over 200 suppliers across Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as discussions with buyers, and communication with employees.

Wilma has signed a memorandum of understanding with Wild Asia on April 9, 2014 to collaborate on an independent smallholder project to support traceable and sustainable, deforestation-free production of palm oil by smallholders. This will involve increasing their productivity and quality through the adoption of sustainable practices.

Wilmar also said that it has made good progress improving the traceability of its palm oil supplies. It is starting to work with third-party mills to obtain data on their suppliers - including plantations, small growers and smallholders.
