Malaysia's Total Trade Up 8.5 Per Cent In June

07/08/2014 (Bernama) - Malaysia's total trade in June 2014 rose by 8.5 per cent to RM118.5 billion from a year ago, said the Department of Statistics.

In a statement Wednesday, the department said the increases in trade were recorded with Taiwan, which rose by RM1.71 billion, South Korea (+RM1.2 billion), Singapore (+RM1.15 billion), US (+RM981 million), France (+RM888.3 million), Thailand (+RM874.6 million), China (+RM778.1 million) and Hong Kong (+RM743.4 million).

It said exports in June 2014 expanded by 7.9 per cent year-on-year to RM61.23 billion and imports rose by 9.2 per cent to RM57.26 billion from June 2013.

It said a trade surplus of RM3.97 billion was recorded.

The department said the major exports in June 2014 were electrical and electronic products which were valued at RM20.39 billion; liquefied natural gas (RM5.2 billion); petroleum products (RM4.98 billion) chemicals and chemical products (RM4.01 billion); and palm oil, which included crude palm oil, fractionated palm oil, palm kernel oil, olein and stearin (RM3.7 billion).

Imports rose by 9.2 per cent to RM57.26 billion compared with the same month a year ago, it said.

The three main categories of imports by end use were intermediate goods valued at RM33.71 billion; capital goods (RM8.79 billion); and, consumption goods (RM4.25 billion).
