Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

27/06/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 151,488 tonnes of cargo comprising 118,609 tonnes of import cargo and 32,879 tonnes of export cargo including 5,001 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 118,609 tonnes comprised of 37,628 tonnes of containerised cargo; 49,385 tonnes of bulk cargo: 40,866 tonnes of coal; 8,519 tonnes of DAP and 31,596 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,879 tonnes comprised of 22,907 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,672 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,025 tonnes of cement; 2,647 tonnes of iron and 6,300 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 5,001 containers comprising 2,601 containers import and 2,400 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 850 of 20's and 864 40's loaded while 3 of 20's and 10 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 497 of 20's and 383 of 40's loaded containers while 343 of 20's and 397 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven ships namely MOL Dignity, Posen, Santa Rosa, Galbot, Ashahda, MT Lahore and Bao Bright carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were seven vessels viz. Japan, Queens Quay, XXII, Panagia Lady, Osam Jumbo-5, United Miravalles and Maha-B carrying containers, bunker, oil tanker, tug, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were three ships namely Chang Hang Guang Rong, XXII and Soldoy carrying oil tanker, bunker and coal respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while four ships namely Niara, Queens Quay, Li Dian-2 and Kontantions carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and DAP respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There were four vessels viz. MSC Jenny, Bon Atlantico, Filia Glory and Mika Manx carrying containers, chemical and coal respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while five vessels viz. Kota Kamil, APL Seattle, Hyundai Bangkok, Al Mahboobah and El Gurdabia carrying containers, chemical and oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

Port Qasim

A cargo volume of 109,772 tonnes comprising 51,240 tonnes of import cargo and 58,532 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 4,723 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 51,240 tonnes includes 8,500 tonnes of edible oil; 2,650 tonnes of fertilizer and 40,090 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 58,532 tonnes includes 8,885 tonnes of cement and 49,647 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 4,723 containers comprising 2,110 containers import and 2,613 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were three ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Diera and MT Chem Road Polaris with containers and edible oil sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely CV Maersk Kolkata with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz. CV Maersk Kolkata, CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Diera, MT Bochem Polaris, MT RBD Anima-e-Core, MV KN Forest and MV Golden Trader currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil, furnace oil and fertilizer respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely CMA CGM Berlioz, Al-Salam-II and Argent Iris with containers, diesel oil and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were four vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Berlioz, CV MSC Jenny, MT Al-Salam-II and MT Argent Iris with containers, diesel oil and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.
