Halal Products Bring in RM32.8Bil
12/06/2014 (The Star) - Halal products, with exports totalling RM32.8bil last year, made up 4.56% of the country’s total exports of RM719.8bil.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Malaysia’s main destinations for halal products were China (RM4.3bil), Singapore (RM3.1bil), the United States (RM2.7bil), Indonesia (RM2.2bil) and Japan (RM1.8bil).
He said the products were mainly foodstuff and beverages (RM13.2bil), halal ingredients (RM10.6bil), palm oil-based products (RM4.8bil), cosmetics and self-care products (RM1.7bil) and pharmaceutical items (RM375mil).
He said this in a written reply to Er Teck Hwa (DAP - Bakri), who asked about halal products that had been exported in terms of product types, amount and countries of destination.
