Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

12/06/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 85,810 tonnes of cargo comprising 43,757 tonnes of import cargo and 42,053 tonnes of export cargo including c loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 43,757 tonnes comprised of 42,848 tonnes of containerised cargo; 909 tonnes of general cargo.

The total export cargo of 42,053 tonnes comprised of 19,509 tonnes of containerised cargo; 18,944 tonnes of bulk cargo: 13,377 tonnes of cement; 5,567 tonnes of talcum powder and 3,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,677 containers comprising 2,992 containers import and 3,685 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 1,202 of 20's and 857 of 40's loaded while 6 of 20's and 35 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 631 of 20's and 217 of 40's loaded containers while 928 of 20's and 846 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely HS Marco Polo, MT Quetta and Genco Auvergne carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. MOL Distinction, Express Kailash, YM Oakland and Liberty Pride carrying containers and vehicles respectively currently at the berths.

There were three ships namely Express Kailash, Nave Universe and Turgut Reis carrying containers, oil tanker and talcum powder respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while two ships namely YM Oakland and Liberty Pride carrying containers and vehicles respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There were four vessels viz. Cora, Al Yarmouk, N Mars and DA Cul Yun carrying oil tankers, mogas and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while ten vessels viz. Teera Bhum, Ever Result, PAC Aries, Niara, Kota Karim, Ocean Explorer, Silva Ambition, Heilan Song, Thor Insum and Nereus Island carrying containers, mogas, steel, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 54,397 tonnes comprising 28,695 tonnes of import cargo and 25,702 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,605 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 28,695 tonnes includes 9,493 tonnes of furnace oil; 5,015 tonnes of chemical and 14,187 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 25,702 tonnes includes 19,394 tonnes of cement and 6,308 tonnes of containerised cargo. There was one ship namely MV Atlantic Glory with chemical sailed out sea on Tuesday morning.

A total number of five vessels viz. CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Veruda, MV Amazonit, MV Atlantic Glory and MT Ashahda currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, chemical and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as seven ships namely MSC Jenny, Dong Ting Hu, Brizo, Maersk Mikage, Au Taurus, Mukaranas and Kasugla with containers, furnace oil, palm oil, iron ore and chemical are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were five vessels viz. CV Sealand Washington, CV Asir, MV Mukaranas, MV Kasugla and MT Au Taurus carrying containers, iron ore, chemical and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Tuesday.
