Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
02/06/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 138,807 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,854 tonnes of import cargo and 44,953 tonnes of export cargo including 3,302 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 93,854 tonnes comprised of 51,918 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12,114 tonnes of coal and 29,822 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 44,953 tonnes comprised of 27,081 tonnes of containerised cargo; 114 tonnes of general cargo; 9,212 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,600 tonnes of cement; 7,125 tonnes of iron scrap and 8,546 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,302 containers comprising 2,105 containers import and 1,197 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 523 of 20's and 673 of 40's loaded while 52 of 20's and 92 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 345 of 20's and 230 of 40's loaded containers while 208 of 20's and 92 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely PAC Aries, Ponente, MT Quetta and BBC Houston carrying containers, oil tanker and vehicles respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. APL Sokhna, Niara, Meli, Somerset and Ikan Salmon carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively currently at the berths. There were four ship namely Mataquito, Oriental Marguerite, Al-Mahboobah and Daebo Pohang carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Cosco Kawasaki carrying containers is expected to sail on Saturday.
There were four vessels viz. UASC Khor Fakkan, MT Lahore, Omera Queen and N Mars carrying containers, oil tankers and mogas due to arrive on Friday, while six vessels viz. Kota Hapas, HS Everest, MOL Dignity, Oriental Nadeshiko, Global Brave and Veruda carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 82,685 tonnes comprising 43,439 tonnes of import cargo and 39,246 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,320 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 43,439 tonnes includes 19,249 tonnes of furnace oil; 3,335 tonnes of edible oil; 464 tonnes of steel coil and 20,391 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 39,246 tonnes includes 10,917 tonnes of cement and 28,329 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were three ships namely CV Bux Contact, CV Saigon Express and MV Pingan with containers and steel coil sailed out sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely CV Tabea with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of seven vessels viz. CV Bux Contact, CV Saigon Express, CV Tabea, MV Ikan Perang, MT Fang Hai-32, MT Rainbow Lucky and MV Pamisos were occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, steel coil, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as four ships namely Hansa Africa, Tabea, Pingan and Alpine Liberty with containers and edible oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
