24/04/2014 (Bernama) - Felcra Berhad has approved nine consolidation and rehabilitation projects involving 4,900 hectares nationwide this year.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Ramlee Abu Bakar said four projects will be implemented in Sarawak involving 3,000 hectares while the rest are in peninsula.

"The consolidation and rehabilitation projects in peninsula involves smaller areas of between 100 hectares and 200 hectares per project," he told reporters here Thursday.

Ramlee said for replanting, Felcra was targeting 50,000 hectares in two years involving the cultivation of rubber and oil palm.

This year alone, 25,000 hectares would be replanted with rubber and oil palm. About 12,000 hectares had been approved.

The replanting programme was necessary as rubber trees and oil palm trees more than 25 years old were no longer economical for production.

Felcra will pay its third dividend for 2013 involving RM106 million which will be announced on Sunday.

It paid RM600 million dividend for 2012 and paid RM900 million dividend for 2011.

Ramlee said last year, Felcra paid dividend amounting to RM348 million to 74,000 participants.

"The decline in dividend followed the plunge in the price of commodities. We hope the price remains stable so that we can continue to pay dividend to the participants."
