Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
10/04/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 136,547 tonnes of cargo comprising 107,090 tonnes of import cargo and 29,457 tonnes of export cargo including 4,581 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 107,090 tonnes comprised of 36,175 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,886 tonnes of general cargo; 14,774 tonnes of coal and 54,255 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 29,457 tonnes comprised of 23,152 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15 tonnes of general cargo; 726 tonnes of cement and 5,564 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,581 containers comprising 2,111 containers import and 2,470 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,210 of 20's and 353 of 40's loaded while 79 of 20's and 58 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 725 of 20's and 258 of 40's loaded containers while 255 of 20's and 487 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were two ships namely Kota Hening and Ponente carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. Santa Rosa, Emek-S, Ashashda, Fu Yu Shan and BBC Switzerland carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were five ships namely Santa Rosa, Emek-S, Norca, Sea Wave and Zi Jing Song carrying containers, oil tanker, naphtha, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while three ships namely Ashashda,, Jo Provel and TCG Gelibolu with oil tankers and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday.
There were four vessels viz. Hyundai Colombo, MT Lahore, Aqila and King Brave carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while six vessels viz. Kota Ganteng, PAC Aries, Pagasitikos, Mytilini, Pristine GV and Champion Tern carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 62,076 tonnes comprising 38,915 tonnes of import cargo and 23,161 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,447 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The total import cargo of 38,915 tonnes includes 9,750 tonnes of palm oil; 7,866 tonnes of chemicals and 21,299 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 23,161 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,447 containers comprising 1,326 containers import and 1,121 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
There was no ship sailed out to sea on Tuesday. A total number of four vessels viz. CV Maersk Chicago, Safmarin Ngami, MT Songa Breeze and Atlantic Glory were occupied berths to load/offload containers, palm oil and chemicals respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as three ships namely MSC Diera, Al-Salam-II and Feng Hai-32 with containers, diesel oil and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
There were two vessels viz. CV MSC Diera and Maersk Kalamata carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Tuesday. There are two ships namely CV CMA CGM Wagner and CV Albert Rickmers with containers due to arrive on Wednesday, while two more ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel and CV Kerstin-S with containers are due to arrive on Thursday at Port Qasim. There are two vessels viz CV Mytilina and CV Tessa carrying containers due to arrive at Port Qasim as per schedule.
