12/02/2014 (Bernama) - Sabah Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun wants Borneo Samudera, a state government agency, to upgrade the milling capacity of its palm oil plant in Kampung Lumadan, Beaufort.

Azizah, who is also Member of Parliament for Beaufort, said measures were necessary to upgrade the plant to accommodate the increased production of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from 4,000 hectares of estates and plantations in the district.

"Currently, the plant is only capable of processing 500 tonnes of FFB per day and this is causing a glut of FFB as the rest of the fruits are not being processed," she said in a statement here today.

In another development, Azizah, who is also Beaufort Agriculture Development Council chairman, suggested that the Department of Lands and Survey help identify suitable areas to be turned into oil palm nurseries in order to boost agricultural productivity in Beaufort especially oil palm.
