Malaysia-Indonesia To Speed Up Consultations To Solve Border Issues
04/12/2013 (Bernama) - The push to speed up consultations on problems relating to Malaysia-Indonesia land and sea borders is among the items agreed to by both countries at the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting here Monday night.
The meeting, jointly chaired by Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and his Indonesian counterpart Dr Marty Natalegawa, also agreed to efforts by both nations to achieve balanced bilateral trade and to cooperate in promoting palm oil in the global market.
"Both countries will work together more closely in the consular area including tackling the problems of Indonesian workers in Malaysia. In the social and cultural fields, both nations have agreed to boost cooperation in providing educational access to Indonesian nationals in Sabah," a press statement released by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry here said.
During the meeting, Anifah and Marty also discussed several other areas of bilateral cooperation including investment and tourism and the issue of haze pollution, other than exchanging views on numerous regional and global issues.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the 10th Annual Consultation between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono which is scheduled in Jakarta on Dec 19.
Anifah and Marty, who were satisfied with the successes achieved in numerous fields of cooperation in the past one year, were in concert about boosting bilateral ties in the future, the statement added.
