18/10/2013 (Bernama) - Malaysian exhibitors at the recently-concluded Tehran International Industry Exhibition clinched business deals worth RM664.65 million.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said nine companies participated in the exhibition representing products ranging from health supplements, LED Lights and fittings, personal care products, adhesive sealants and coating products, security system, electric and telecom poles, garment accessories and many more.

"This was Malaysia's ninth consecutive participation as a national pavilion in this fair in order to boost Malaysia's exports to Iran.

"Iranian buyers want high quality and value for money products. Malaysian companies must continue to serve this market through regular market visits and participation at trade events in Iran," said Matrade Senior Trade Commissioner in Dubai Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz in a statement.

He said Matrade Dubai would continue to assist Malaysian companies to penetrate the Iranian market.

"Matrade Dubai foresees more Iranian buyers will be visiting Malaysia to continue their discussions and look for new products and services that Malaysia can offer," added Mohd Mustafa.

One participant at the fair, Zenn HRB Sdn Bhd, which manufacturers concrete poles and railway sleepers, sees a huge potential in the Iranian market given the country's plan to expand its rail and subway network.

The company was now in the process of shortlisting potential partners since the Iranian Government was embarking on a major infrastructure plan.

Iran is Malaysia's third largest trading partner in the West Asia region after United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

For the first eight months of this year, Malaysia's exports to Iran increased 9.7 per cent to RM2.21 billion compared with an offtake of RM2.01 billion registered in the same period last year.

The total value of Malaysia's trade with Iran stood at RM4.58 billion last year with exports valued at RM3.52 billion and imports at RM1.06 billion.

Malaysian exports to Iran included palm oil, crude rubber, chemical and chemical products, wood products, rubber products and machinery, appliances and parts.
