Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

04/10/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 124,433 tonnes of cargo comprising 88,617 tonnes of import cargo and 35,816 tonnes of export cargo including 3,821 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 88,617 tonnes comprised 19,850 tonnes of containerised cargo; 318 tonnes of general cargo; 38,982 tonnes of bulk cargo: 31,993 tonnes of coal; 2,971 tonnes of DAP; 4,018 tonnes of wheat and 29,467 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 35,816 tonnes comprised 31,712 tonnes of containerised cargo; 40 tonnes of general cargo; 3,514 tonnes of bulk cargo: 608 tonnes of sugar; 2,906 tonnes of scrap and 550 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,821 containers comprising 1,501 containers import and 2,320 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 656 of 20's and 378 of 40's loaded while 3 of 20's and 43 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 584 of 20's and 560 of 40's loaded containers while 168 of 20's and 224 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are seven ships namely Santa Rosa, Xin Nan Sha, Hammonia Galicam, Stolt Helluland, Al Jalaa, Supra Challenger and BSLE Teresa with three container ships, two oil tankers, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are five vessels viz Hammonia Galicam, Kota Kaya, Alam Sayang, Ocean Concord and BSLE Teresa with two container ships, one bulk cargo ships and two general cargo ships respectively currently at the berths.There are two ships namely Kota Kaya and MSC Levina with two container ships respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday.

There are three vessels viz Northern Prelude, Oriental Naueshiko and MT Quetta with one container ship and two oil tankers respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz Elini-1, Kota Hening, Ponente, Energy Centurion, Morning Glory, MT Lahore, UBC Chile and Da Cai Yun with three container ships, one naphtha tanker, one mogas carrier, one oil tanker, one cement carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 61,218 tonnes comprising 28,616 tonnes of import cargo and 32,602 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,756 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 28,616 tonnes includes 2,987 tonnes of palm oil; 2,760 tonnes of fertiliser; 9,892 tonnes of wheat and 12,977 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,602 tonnes includes 200 tonnes of chemicals; 12,015 tonnes of cement and 20,387 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 1,756 containers comprising 683 containers import and 1,073 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There are two ships namely CV CMA CGM Rossini and MT Falcon with containers and palm oil sailed out to sea on Thursday morning. A total number of eight vessels viz CV CMA CGM Rossini, CV Nysted Maersk, MV Luzern, MV Alam Manis, MV Capital, MV South, MV Norgas Challenger and MT Falcon are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, fertiliser, wheat, chemicals and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as six ships namely CMA CGM Coral, CV Jumme Trader, Bum Chin, Al-Soor-II, Beacon Sin and Lady Amna with containers, palm oil, diesel oil, wheat and fertiliser are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz CV CMA CGM Coral, CV Jumme Trader, MT Bum Chin and MT Bunga Kantan Dua with containers, palm oil and chemicals expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are two ships namely CV MSC Levina and MT Semua Perdana with containers and palm oil due to arrive on Friday. As many as three ships namely CV MSC Kerry, CV Maersk Harford and MV Ioanic Spirit carrying containers and cement are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
