Pakistan, Malaysia Have Vast Potential in Agriculture, Livestock

04/10/2013 (Daily Times) - Pakistan and Malaysia have vast potential for collaboration in the field of agriculture and livestock. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan federal Minister for National Food Security and Research (NFS&R) taking to High Commissioner of Malaysia Dr Hasrul Sani bin Mujtabar appreciated Malaysian technical assistance in the field of agriculture to ensure food security in Pakistan. He appreciated Malaysia’s cooperation and assistance for oil palm development in Pakistan. Malaysia has been providing technical assistance and oil palm germinated seed for oil palm plantations in Pakistan since 1995. In this regard, many agreements were signed between Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Pakistan Oilseed Development Board (PODB) and so for MPOB has provided 1,250,000 germinated oil palm seed for plantation in Pakistan. Bosan highlighted there was a great potential for large scale oil palm plantation in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan and invited Malaysian investment in this sector. The minister thanked Malaysian High Commissioner for extending consultancy services for oil palm nursery management and field plantation. Hasrul Sani bin Mujtabar assured Malaysian government would also extend training facilities to Pakistan technical staff on palm oil extraction, processing and marketing
