30/09/2013 (Bernama) - Palm oil planters in Terengganu are expected to see a productivity boost with the use of Terengganu State Farmers' Organisation's (PPNT) bio-organic fertiliser (BO2), a product of intensive research and development.

Its Chairman, Shawalludin Ahmad, said the fertilisers would be available in the market at RM47 for a 25kg bag soon.

"PPNT has scored another success with the launch of the BO2 especially for the palm oil industry after undertaking an intensive study," he told Bernama here Saturday.

He said based on the study, the continuous use of the bio-organic fertilisers will boost productivity and will make the industry sustainable compared with the use of other fertilisers.

"The fertiliser has a higher percentage of calcium and magnesium compared to the BO2 from the Johor Farmers' Association.

"This is because most of the land in Terengganu like in Kuala Berang Jerangau and Bungor lack magnesium," he said.

He said some sandy and hilly areas lacked carbon and the use of the bio-organic fertiliser will help increase organic activities in the ground and help make them fertile.

Shawalludin said the BO2 will be distributed by PPNT via its network of farmers' associations before it will be sold to the public.
