Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports
24/09/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 288,334 tonnes of cargo comprising 213,520 tonnes of import cargo and 74,814 tonnes of export cargo including 5,888 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 213,520 tonnes comprised 95,764 tonnes of containerised cargo; 28,676 tonnes of general cargo; 9,893 tonnes of bulk cargo: 4,395 tonnes of DAP; 1,827 tonnes of rape seed; 3,671 tonnes of soyabean meal and 79,187 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 74,814 tonnes comprised 51,477 tonnes of containerised cargo; 71 tonnes of general cargo; 2,228 tonnes of cement and 21,038 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,888 containers comprising 2,528 containers import and 3,360 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 1,246 of 20's and 586 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 25 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 685 of 20's and 649 of 40's loaded containers while 363 of 20's and 507 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are nine ships namely APL Sokhna, Hansa Nordburg, Rio Blanco, YM Zenith, Al-Qadisia, Ocean Globe, Desh Bhakt, Glory Hong Kong and Magnum Power with four container ships, three oil tankers, one fertiliser carrier and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are eight vessels viz Rio Chicago, Wan Hai-513, Santa Rosa, MOL Dignity, Alpine Meadow, Bunga Lavender, Chem Nicolas and New Fortune with four container ships, three oil tankers and one fertiliser carrier respectively are currently at the berths.
There are four ships namely Wan Hai-513, MOL Dignity, Alpine Meadow and APJ Shirin with two container ships, one oil tanker and one steel ship respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while two ships namely Rio Chicago and Sea Merchant with one container ship and one cement carrier respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday. There are seven vessels viz YM Zenith and Kota Ganteng, ACX Diamond, MSC Atlanta, Water Freeze, Kong Que Zuo, Pristine GV and Frieda Seimer with three container ships, one chemicals carrier, one mogas tanker, one ethanol tanker and one DAP carrier respectively due to arrive on Tuesday.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 46,231 tonnes comprising 39,093 tonnes of import cargo and 7,138 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 575 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 39,093 tonnes includes 25,000 tonnes of diesel oil; 8,278 tonnes of fertiliser; 15 tonnes of Roro; 2,000 tonnes of palm oil and 3,800 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 7,138 tonnes includes 13 tonnes of Roro and 7,125 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 575 containers comprising 200 containers import and 375 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. There are four ships namely CV MSC Didem, CV Alliance St. Louis, MT Al-Soor-II and MT Iver Exact with containers, diesel oil and edible oil sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours.
A total number of seven vessels viz CV Maersk Colombo, CV MSC Didem, CV Alliance St. Louis, MV Tamil Nadu, MV Capital, MT Al-Soor-II and MT Iver Exact are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, fertiliser and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as two ships namely Beacon-SW and MT Lahore with wheat and furnace oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are three vessels viz CV Nysted Maersk, MT Maritime Lira and MT Lahore with containers, palm oil and furnace oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Monday. There are two ships namely CV Maersk Kingston and CV Hanjin Irene with containers due to arrive on Tuesday. As many as three ships namely CV CMA CGM Verdi, CV Kertin-S and CV APL Oman carrying containers are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
