13/09/2013 (Bernama) - The Sabah State Farmers Organisation (PPN) and the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) have agreed to set up a palm oil mill in the state.

Sabah PPN Chairman Datuk Mohd Nazri Abdullah said the agreement was reached in discussions with NAFAS Chairman Datuk Seri Saipolbahari Suib.

"If everything goes smoothly, the mill is expected to be built next year," Nazri told reporters after Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations organised by the Beaufort PPN and Kampung Lubok Rukun Tetangga at Weston near here Tuesday.

He said Sabah PPN is looking for a suitable site for the mill, which he said would make it easier for PPN members to sell their oil palm fruits to either a NAFAS or PPN mill.

"Previously, members in the state had problems selling their oil palm fruits because the mills often offered low prices," he said.

Nazri said Sabah PPN and NAFAS also plan to open a beef processing facility, and expressed optimism that the two projects would raise the incomes of Sabah PPN members.
