Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

02/09/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 143,492 tonnes of cargo comprising 125,266 tonnes of import cargo and 18,226 tonnes of export cargo including 5,794 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 125,266 tonnes comprised 46,783 tonnes of containerised cargo; 26,655 tonnes of bulk cargo and 51,828 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 18,226 tonnes comprised 11,641 tonnes of containerised cargo; 615 tonnes of general cargo and 5,970 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,794 containers comprising 3,978 containers import and 1,816 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 1,009 of 20's and 1,219 of 40's loaded while 145 of 20's and 193 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 290 of 20's and 319 of 40's loaded containers while 122 of 20's and 383 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are four ships with two container ships, one sulphur carrier and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are five vessels with three container ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There is one ship namely Ikan Parang with one oil tanker sailed out to sea on Saturday. There are three vessels viz Rio Charleston, Tasanee and Lodestar Grace with two container ships and one chemicals carrier respectively due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 53,821 tonnes comprising 39,411 tonnes of import cargo and 14,410 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,686 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The total import cargo of 39,411 tonnes includes 64 tonnes of wheat; 177 tonnes of project cargo; 2,483 tonnes of MEG; 10,930 tonnes of rape seeds; 2,800 tonnes of palm oil; 7,245 tonnes of phosphoric acid; 1,749 tonnes of steel coil and 13,963 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 14,410 tonnes includes 3,502 tonnes of cement and 10,908 tonnes of containerised cargo. There are three ships namely MV Ellens Borg, MT Ginga Ocelot and MV Chembulk Barcelona with project cargo, palm oil and chemicals sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours, while two more ships namely CV MSC Levina and MT Atlantic Glory with containers and MEG sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.

A total number of thirteen vessels viz CV MSC Levina, MT Gulf Oasis, MV Ikan Salmon, MV Ellens Borg, MV Daebo Pohang, MT Ginga Ocelot, MV Beachem Oslo, MV Inlako Brave, MV Pangia Stenion, MV Chembulk Barcelona, MT Atlantic Glory, MV Dong Hai Jun and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey Ocelot are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, wheat, rape seeds, chemical, palm oil, project cargo, steel coil, dredger and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely MSC Kerry, Jia Run, Norgas Petalina and Malakand with containers, chemicals, project cargo and rape seeds are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Kerstin-S, MV Ellena Sborg, and MV Chembulk Barcelona with containers, steel coil, MEG and phosphoric acid took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-1) and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Friday. There are two ships namely CV MSC Kerry and MT Malakand with containers and rape seeds due to arrive on Saturday as per arrival schedule.
