Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

30/08/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 149,841 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,770 tonnes of import cargo and 29,071 tonnes of export cargo including 5,223 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 120,770 tonnes comprised 31,987 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,587 tonnes of general cargo; 37,946 tonnes of bulk cargo and 28,250 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 29,071 tonnes comprised 25,564 tonnes of containerised cargo; 227 tonnes of general cargo and 3,280 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,223 containers comprising 2,425 containers import and 2,798 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 547 of 20's and 939 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 377 of 20's and 647 of 40's loaded containers while 303 of 20's and 412 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are four ships namely Kota Kaya, ACX Diamond, Hallen and TDT-2 with two container ships and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are five vessels viz MSC Levina, Ponente, Northern Prelude, Al-Jalaa and Laurel Galaxy with three container ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There are four ships namely OOCL Jakarta, Laurel Galaxy, Tesoro and Jia Run with one container ship, one oil tanker, one sulphur carrier and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely Al-Jalaa with one oil tanker is expected to sail on Friday.

There are three vessels viz Kota Arif, Oriental Lotus and Kong Que Zuo with one container ship, one ethanol tanker and one mogas carrier respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz Sakaka, Tessa, YM South and MT Lahore with three container ships and one crude oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 140,162 tonnes comprising 106,446 tonnes of import cargo and 33,716 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,715 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 106,446 tonnes includes 2,560 tonnes of wheat; 60,483 tonnes of furnace oil; 13,278 tonnes of rape seeds; 8,500 tonnes of palm oil; 8,040 tonnes of chemicals and 13,585 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 33,716 tonnes includes 13,519 tonnes of cement; 1,197 tonnes of steel coil and 19,000 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 1,715 containers comprising 715 containers import and 1,000 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There is one ship namely CV CMA CGM Wagner with containers sailed out to sea on during the last 24 hours on Thursday morning.

A total number of eight vessels viz CV CMA CGM Wagner, MV Ikan Salmon, MV Aoyana, MV Inlako Brave, MV Pangia Stenion, MT Atlantic Glory, MT Ginga Ocelot and MT Quetta are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, wheat, rape seeds, chemical, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as seven ships namely Kerstin-S, Chembulk Barcelona, Beachem Oslo, Beacon SW, Ellena Sborg, Daebo Pohang and Malaka ND with containers, phosphoric acid, wheat, project cargo, steel pipes and rape seeds are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were four vessels viz CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Kerstin-S, MV Ellena Sborg, and MV Chembulk Barcelona with containers, project cargo and phosphoric acid expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal(MW-2) and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday. There is one ship namely MT Jia Run with steel coil due to arrive on Thursday, while another ship namely CV MSC Levina with containers is due to arrive on Friday. As many as four ships namely CV Maersk Denver, CV MSC Kerry, MT Iron Lady and MV Resolve carrying containers, furnace oil and project cargo are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
